Global Citizens

  • Content-based courses for teenagers and adults.
  • The subject: STEM (Science Technology Engineering Maths).
  • Environmental science and awareness.
  • 10 x 1.5hr lessons (online or in-person).
  • Courses written and run by a qualified natural scientist and DELTA qualified teacher.

In all the courses, students will practise and improve their science communication skills, learning and using suitable language and visuals for different audiences.

We will learn about …

  • the atmosphere and ocean systems.
  • the physics of waves, tides and shallow-water processes.
  • water masses and deep water circulation.
  • the biology of photic and aphotic zones, right down to abyssal zones.
  • energy flow between trophic levels.
  • deep-sea sediments and Palaeoceanography.

The final project will involve choosing a part of The Pelagic Realm to focus on and learn more about how amazing it is.

We will learn about …

  • robots in society.
  • different types of drones.
  • biodiversity and ecosystems.
  • environmental monitoring.
  • existing projects on drones used in environmental management.

The final project will involve looking more closely at an environment / ecosystem that would benefit from drone assistance.

The environmental web and eco-sustainability

We will learn about …

  • our connected planet but divided world.
  • threats to and the vulnerability of island life.
  • defining and cultivating eco-sustainability.
  • global governance.

The learners will end the course by taking on the roles of powerful people and negotiating how to work towards an eco-sustainable future.

  • managing viruses: vaccines and viruses
  • The spread of disease
  • Covid-19: When and how it all ‘began’; when and how will it all ‘end’.

To end the course, learners will design and present a campaign.
