CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning)

What is CLIL?

In simple terms, CLIL refers to teaching subjects (maths, science, geography etc) through a language that is not the students’ mother tongue.

Content – Language – Integrated – Learning

Why CLIL?

  • Communicating with people from other countries, learning about one another, opens up the world: together we can work towards a better, more sustainable world.
  • The real need for language to complete tasks makes them authentic and motivating.
  • Language learning promotes linguistic confidence and competence.
  • Learning through a language that is not one’s own, helps develop critical thinking and cognitive flexibility.
  • The more we know about each other, the more we will care; CLIL promotes cross-language and cross-culture communication, developing multilingual interests and attitudes.
  • Increased linguistic confidence is an indispensable tool for future studies and working life.

TEACHER TRANING: Use CLIL in your classes

All teachers, with any level of English, will benefit from ideas as to how to maximise efficacy of English in the classroom.

Group teacher support with environmental project of the month.

To ensure a project is working well and cohesively within a school, I can meet all teachers involved. Cross-subject learning is vital for maximising student involvement, learning and for reaching all learning styles, and this is great for the reputation of a school.

How long? 1 hour group session(s)
